Everything you need to start dictating with Oulha on your Mac or Windows PC, and what to do when something doesn’t work.
Getting started
The first time you open Oulha, a short setup walks you through everything:
- Sign in with your email.
- Allow what Oulha asks for. On Mac: Microphone, Accessibility (so Oulha can type for you) and Input Monitoring (so it notices your key). On Windows: the microphone.
- Test your microphone. Say any sentence. If Oulha can't hear you, pick another mic.
- Meet your keys and practise twice: once holding the key, once hands-free.
- Have a referral code? Enter it to get 30 days of Pro.
Then put your cursor in any app and talk.
Talking and hands-free
- Hold to talk: hold Right ⌥ (Option) on Mac or Right Ctrl on Windows, speak, and let go. The text is typed where your cursor is.
- Hands-free: double-tap the same key, talk as long as you need, then tap it again to stop. The key with Space starts hands-free too.
- Cancel: press Esc while you're talking.
- Up to 20 minutes in one dictation. Oulha tells you when less than a minute is left.
Change any key in Settings → General → Keyboard shortcuts.
Languages
Speak Arabic or English, or both in one sentence: English words stay in English letters. Oulha understands Egyptian and Gulf Arabic, and Modern Standard Arabic too.
Choose your dialect on the Writing page, under Dialect (Egyptian or Gulf). The same page sets how numbers and English words are written.
The app's own language (Settings → General → Language) changes only the app's menus and pages, not how you dictate.
Dictionary and snippets
- Dictionary: add the names, brands and terms you say a lot, and they're written right every time. You can also add a correction: whenever Oulha writes one word, it changes it to another.
- With Learn from my corrections on (Settings → General), Oulha learns a word after you fix it twice.
- Snippets: save text you type often, like a link, your bank details or your signature, and give it a short cue. Say the cue anywhere in a sentence, and the saved text goes in exactly as written.
Styles and Transforms
Styles (the Style page) set how your writing looks in each kind of app: personal messages, work messages, email and other. Pick Formal, Casual, Very casual or Excited! for each. A style changes only punctuation and formatting, never your words.
Transforms change the words, when you ask. Select text and press a Transform's shortcut, and the new text replaces it in place. The default keys:
| Transform | Mac | Windows |
|---|---|---|
| Polish | ⌃⌥1 | Win+Alt+1 |
| Prompt | ⌃⌥2 | Win+Alt+2 |
| Fusha | ⌃⌥3 | Win+Alt+3 |
| English | ⌃⌥4 | Win+Alt+4 |
| Professional | ⌃⌥5 | Win+Alt+5 |
Make your own Transforms on the Transforms page.
History
Home shows the dictations made on this computer. Hover one to copy it, retry it or play it back.
To paste your last dictation again, press ⌃⌘V on Mac or Shift+Alt+Z on Windows. To copy it, press ⌃⌘C or Shift+Alt+X.
Your dictations are saved to your account so you can find them again. You can turn this off or delete them at any time, in Settings → Data and Privacy.
On this computer you choose how long History stays: until you delete it, 24 hours, or never. Audio is kept for 14 days.
Oulha may use some of your dictations, without your name, to test and improve its quality. You can turn this off. They are never sold, and never used to train other companies' AI models.
Plans
- Free: 2,000 words and 100 rewrites a week, with every feature. They reset every Monday. A rewrite is a Transform, or any other change you ask Oulha to make to text.
- Pro: $15 a month or $144 a year, with no weekly limit.
- Trial: every new account starts with a 7-day Pro trial, no card needed. With a friend's referral code, it's 30 days.
Upgrade, manage or cancel your subscription in Settings → Plans and Billing.
Refer a friend
Share your link from Settings → Account → Refer a friend. A friend who uses your code during their trial gets 30 days of Pro instead of 7.
You get one free month of Pro for every friend who dictates 2,000 words or subscribes, for up to 1,000 friends.
Got a code from a friend? Enter it during setup, or in Settings → Account → Have a referral code? while your trial is on.
Troubleshooting
Oulha doesn't hear me
Open Settings → General → Microphone and pick another mic, or let “Find the right mic for you” test each one. Check that the mic isn't muted. On Mac, check Settings → General → Permissions for the microphone; on Windows, Microphone access on the same page.
The text isn't typed
On Mac, Oulha needs Accessibility to type and Input Monitoring to notice your key: allow both in Settings → General → Permissions. When Oulha can't type in an app, it copies the text instead: press ⌘V (Ctrl+V on Windows) to paste it.
Still stuck?
Open the Oulha menu (its icon in the menu bar on Mac, or by the clock on Windows) and choose Talk to support, or write to support@oulha.com. We'll reply by email.
